How Does Your Garden Grow?

It's that time of year again!  We're on our second year of gardening and sure have learned a lot.  This year we added one more smaller box and still have peppers to get in the ground.  This past weekend we planted our corn, zucchini, and lettuce.  The strawberries from last year are taking off and are already covered in blooms.  The raspberries are doing well and already growing nicely.  We planted two new raspberry bushes this year, black raspberries, but they aren't looking too hot.  They're still just a stick in the ground with no growth.  I'm hoping they're still settling in and will take off soon.  Let me know if  any of you garden and send me your blog so I can follow along with your gardening successes!

Strawberries

My wimpy lettuce.  I'm hoping they perk up soon and get bigger.

Zucchini

Corn - we have on whole bed of corn this year because it did so well last year and was very yummy!

Overall view of garden.  This year we also added a fence.  Last year I tried peppers and as soon as anything grew, something (rabbits maybe?) stripped them.  So I never got any peppers.

Garden Update June 27

The garden does well and then the next week it's not. My potted zucchini that were taking off are now turning shriveled up and yellow. And the squash had lots of blooms that died and they're starting to turn yellow too. Any ideas? I think the garden needed some water but we were gone this weekend. However, it's storming pretty good right now so it's getting plenty at the moment!

Squash

Lima beans...have some bean pods but they're hard to see.

Carrots...not sure when to pick these but some are getting close.

Strawberries...starting to get some more berries on them.

Our watermelon. We have three or four others besides these are more blooms!

Corn...we hand fertilized this week.

Garden Update June 18th

I missed my garden update last week but here it is now. It's doing very well other than some hail damage to some pepper plants.

Zucchini

The corn is as tall as me. Pretty big difference from my last blog post a week and half ago or so.

Squash getting some blooms.

Lima Beans

Have some carrots starting to show.

The strawberries have finally perked up and are looking so much better.

We have about five little watermelons so far. See a new one every other day or so.

No one warned me that watermelon take over the entire garden.

June 6th Garden Update

Zucchini--I harvested one so far but didn't get to eat it. Forgot it on the counter while we were gone camping and it was moldy when I got back.

Peppers

Squash

Lima Beans

Carrots

Strawberries--we've finally gotten to eat a few of these now that the netting is on and the birds can't get them.

Watermelon is taking over this box. It's curling around everything and getting awful close to the onion. Who knew they got this big?

Onion

Corn

Had my four year old stand by it just to give you an idea how tall it's getting and then the two year old had to stand by it too.

May 30 Garden Update

Look at those zucchini!

Peppers
I was worried about these squash for awhile but they've perked up the past few days with some sunshine.

Lima beans are getting buds and flowers.

Carrot

Strawberries...we put some netting over them (it's kinda hard to see) but we actually picked three strawberries yesterday! Guess the netting helps with the birds.
